The Othello Tragedy, as Told by Maya the Great Egret, Part III ©

[caption id="attachment_1937" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption="Mac and Apple the Great Blue herons"][/caption]

Hello, by now y’all MUST know that I’m Maya the Great Egret and I’m here to continue with the tragedy of Mac and Apple the Great Blue Herons.  If y’all want ta catch up, jest crawl down the page for Part II.  Now let me see where we all were last time I was here:

Oh yes,  we ended the last time with Cassio doing a “come on, y’all”… What Ms P? Oh, yes, forgot there for a while—was using my own dialect.  Yes, it appeared to the observer that Cassio was trying to court the lady Apple, didn’t it?  Well, actually, Cassio the Great Blue Heron was as devastated as the rest in the rookery about the loss of the three M’s.  The news had spread all the way up to Tallahassee and so, Cassio decided to fly down and offer his condolences:

But to others, and to Mac in particular, it looked like he was trying to woo the heart-broken Apple.  While out taking his own solitary stroll, he stopped to get a drink from the little creek.  Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted Cassio:

What was going on?  Was Apple responding to Cassio’s overtures? In THEIR love nest??  In the nest where the 3 M’s came into life???  In the nest where the three M’s died???? Near the nest where they did the watch and wait for the three M’s to fly over with new wings?????  In the nest where they turned back into each other and let the grief wash over them!  In THAT nest?

He was so shocked at what he saw that the first ever tear came and then another and then another until he had filled the little creek to overflowing:

And it was at that very moment that the inhabitants of the rookery gave the name of Desdemona to Apple and Mac took on the name of Othello in their hushed, shocked conversations!

Feeling betrayed and lonely, Mac took off for the barrier islands, this time not caring where he went and spent his days in despair.:

He didn’t even have an interest in fishing anymore. When he was hungry, he picked up the fish the humans had discarded and would morosely carry one and take a nibble here and there.

Tanzania the Gopher Tortoise advised him to pick HIMSELF up—so distraught was she to see a magnificent Great Blue Heron –the king of the wading birds—reduced to such a pitiful mess:

[caption id="attachment_1949" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption="“Go home, dear boy and make peace with your soul.”"][/caption]

A trio of Ibis flying by at dusk told him to hurry back and make amends with Apple:

[caption id="attachment_1950" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption="“She cries out day and night with loneliness for the three M’s and her love, Mac""]“She cries out day and night with loneliness for the three M’s and her love, Mac"[/caption]

When a bunch of white pelicans threw their 50cents into the mix, he’d had enough. He decided that he would confront the pair and tell Apple how much he missed her. When he got to the rookery, he was not pleased to find that rascal Cassio STILL in the nest:

So, he swooped down and confronted Apple:

[caption id="attachment_1952" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption="“How could you do this to me??? "How could you betray me? I will kill you and strangle your new lover Cassio!!"][/caption]

Apple was so shocked, furious, relieved, happy, unhappy, angry, sad–all these emotions came rushing in at once after the weeks of feeling just emptiness so that she, like Mac, exploded in anger:

[caption id="attachment_1953" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption="“What do you mean—betray!!!!????? How could you believe I’d EVER betray you. Cassio is your friend and came here to comfort us. You betrayed ME by leaving me alone after all we went through!”"][/caption]

But Mac wouldn’t listen.  He was on a roll after the weeks of desperation:

[caption id="attachment_1954" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption="“Ha! I saw you responding to him when he was trying to woo you. Don’t talk to me about being alone!!”"][/caption]

Now, Apple was totally baffled until she remembered back to that day weeks ago:

[caption id="attachment_1955" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption="“But I was describing the watch –how long it took for them to fly over and how at times we had to stand up and pay attention. Tell him, Cassio!”"][/caption]

And back and forth they went until they both were so tired, so empty, so bereft…..so exhausted from loneliness and grief that they finally couldn’t resist the pull that loneliness had created and they kissed:

So all was well again.  Or was is?  Will they ever find the way back to harmony after this? We’ll have to see.  For now,  here’s MY music selection from The Boss—no, not Ms P—THE Boss-the Bruce.

Note from Ms P.  –It’s ALWAYS darkest before the dawn, so stay tuned for Part IV .  Thank you, Maya for another splendid narration.  I’m so proud of you.  Now– Here’s Bruce

Eldorado the Cattle Egret Makes His Debut!

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I’m very pleased–albeit a tad harried–to introduce myself.  I’ll be your narrator today.  I’m filling in for Maya the Great Egret who was filling in for Ms P who is…suffice it to say, I’ll do the job.

[caption id="attachment_1490" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption="Eldorado the Cattle Egret"][/caption]

You see, Ms Maya had a meltdown during rehearsals for the upcoming post on Jealously down by the Rookery or some such idiotic title to that effect.  Oh, sorry–I’m Eldorado the Cattle Egret and I’m a very distant cousin of Zinnia the Cattle Egret.  Anyway, here’s a look at the upcoming post (which will appear after the conclusion of Delila the Roseate Spoonbill’s dilemma with Basilio):

[caption id="attachment_1491" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption="Mac and Apple the Great Blue Herons"][/caption]

You really must excuse Ms P for the lame names she has come up with, lately!  (Honestly, Mac and apple–must have a private word with her anon.)  At any rate, the two have a sad tale to tell and I’m rather relieved to report that Maya the Great Egret will, indeed, be doing that narration in a few weeks.  So, I’ll bid you all adieu (I’m off to the Everglades for a long vacation to work out my own dilemma).   I’ll leave you with this music that underlies the sentiments  I feel right now.

All’s Well That…

…ends well! Back to our anhinga saga:  last time we saw them, Dante was having a hissy fit with Beatrice.  He thought she might have succumbed to the charms of Hunkhinga, the playbird of the quartier.  Beatrice flew off in a huff and left Dante to his inane blathering.

[caption id="attachment_366" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption=""What have I done, Dio mio, I've chased away my bella Beatrice. Maybe Sungret can help me?""]"What have I done, Dio mio, I've chased away my bella Beatrice. Beatrice is also in pain:

And, as in all good fairy tales…

The White Pelicans at Ding Darling will fly north soon and in a few months we’ll (hopefully) see the Roseate Spoonbills return to the ponds.  Here are some of those beautiful birds that are such a welcome sight.

[caption id="attachment_373" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption=""How fun is this, y'all?""]"How fun is this, y'all?"[/caption] [caption id="attachment_374" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption=""Oh, yesss! Meanwhile, It’s the time of year when we have many brush fires that threaten people’s homes. The Fire Departments in the surrounding counties are working long hours to keep people safe and we send our thanks to them.

Soon, the rains will come and freshen up our dried-out earth and all will be well again!  Until next time, have a safe and fun-filled life.

Fear Is Seeping into Every Crevice…

…of our lives lately – just look at Sol, our Great Blue Heron Juvie.  Some of us could do with a lesson from his experience.  Let’s watch:

[caption id="attachment_315" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption=""I'm soooooo excited - les parents told me to try out mes wings today""]"I'm soooooo excited - les parents told me to try out mes wings today"[/caption] [caption id="attachment_316" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption=""I'm a little scared - Sil and Sul think I can do it, but...""]"I'm a little scared - Sil and Sul think I can do it, but..."[/caption] [caption id="attachment_317" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption=""What if I fall in the water like Billiebird, suppose my wings don't spread, an' oh! there's a GREAT big alligator down there...""]"What if I fall in the water like Billiebird, suppose my wings don't spread, an' oh! there's a GREAT big alligator down there..."[/caption] [caption id="attachment_318" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption=""Bon! Yoohoo y'all."[/caption]

So, why don’t we all take a deep breath, be cautious, let go … and SOAR.  IT IS FANTASTIC when you let go of fear.

We’ll get back to Sungret and Moongret, our Great Egret couple next week.  They said to say “Hi” and relate the great news of a close relative living nearby.  Say hello to Shinybeakgret:

[caption id="attachment_325" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption=""Hey, Shinybeakgret, d'ya drop something?""]"Hey, Shinybeakgret, d'ya drop something?"[/caption] [caption id="attachment_326" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption=""Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, someone's gettin' Tiffany for their birthday!""]"Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, someone's gettin' Tiffany for their birthday!"[/caption]

Last time I wrote about the goings on at the rookery, I showed some photos of a gorgeous Anhinga.  Well, things have developed in the Anhinga sphere.  I found out some information on them:  his name is Dante and her name is – wait for it – Beatrice; but the plot is muddied by the interference of Hunkhinga who is SUCH a playbird of the western world!!!  He’s flirting with all the anhinga signorinas at the rookery.  Last time we saw Dante, he was scanning the horizon in despair for a sighting of his beloved Beatrice.  But things got messy, as we shall see:

[caption id="attachment_327" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption=""Che?@#$ ... is that Hunkhinga I see before mine eyes?""]"Che?@#$ ... is that Hunkhinga I see before mine eyes?"[/caption] [caption id="attachment_328" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption=""O Dio, Have I lost my cara Beatrice to that playbird?""]"O Dio, Have I lost my cara Beatrice to that playbird?"[/caption] [caption id="attachment_329" align="aligncenter" width="900" caption=""My heart, my heart, il mio cuore is broken into tiny, winy, wooney bits. Beatrice: "I weel not tok to uuu when uuu like dis.""]Dante: "So, I turn my back to get some fish an' you let that ladro Hunkhinga chirp all over ya?" Beatrice: "I weel not tok to uuu when uuu like dis."[/caption]

Ah!  the green eye of jealousy and how futile!  We hope that the lovebirds will make up.

Next time the saga will continue; we’ll take a look at some white pelicans over at Ding Darling; and we’ll get back to Sungret and Moongret.  Meanwhile, hold up that head, stick your wings up high and FLY.
