… for connecting with friends and family and having some cheer despite gloomy (economic) times. It is also the season when people flock to our region for various reasons, whether it be to enjoy the beach, boating, the balmy weather, fishing or shopping. Wildlife enthusiasts come in droves, too, despite the short days. I am reminded again and again when I hear shouts of exuberance at the sight of an Osprey or Wood Stork flying low overhead, how fortunate we are to live here.
Last week, out on Corkscrew Road, there were quite a few birds in the trees: BIG ones – Wood Storks.

"Quick, move over!"

And then, there were three.
On Fort Myers Beach, Ospreys were busy building nests and winning gasps of admiration from reverent visitors. This was during the golden hour – my favourite time for taking pictures.

"D'ya think they've spotted us yet?"

"Heck, yeah! BIG time!"
One of the many, many charms of J.N “Ding” Darling refuge on Sanibel Island is the sight of a Roseate Spoonbill coming in to land to preen with his/her buddies.

"Gangway, guys!"
Have a great, meaningful week, everyone.
